On behalf of the entire Khanyisa High School family, I am pleased to introduce you to the Khanyisa High School Web site. Within these electronic pages, I trust that you will get some ideas and information about Khanyisa High School
The history of starting Khanyisa High School is a response to the call of the local community of KwaPayne. The Catholics of KwaPayne requested Father Fischer CMM to start a Catholic school in their area, to give quality education to economically disadvantaged rural children.
The Church and Fr. Fischer looked for months to find religious congregations or suitable persons to venture into a huge challenge of starting a school, from nothing, in a peri-urban settlement. When no one came forward Mr Sebastian Vattakunnel, who was the Deputy Principal of Zingisa High School, was approached and in 1994, the year South Africa became a democratic country, Khanyisa High School was started by Mr Vattakunnel for the Catholic Church to provide quality education to the rural children. The support given by Father Fischer CMM was very crucial for the establishment of the school.
Today, Khanyisa High School is responding to the call of the time where the world has experienced an explosion of knowledge and South Africa is making huge strides in democracy and undoing the inequalities of the past. It is a world that has developed wondrous technologies that link continents but isolate humans, leaving many men and women weary and dispirited, feeling distant from moral purpose, uncertain about knowledge or the very worth of human existence.
Khanyisa is trying to mould the youth, by practising Gospel Values and Catholic ethos, to face the world which is steeped in corruption and low moral values. Khanyisa endeavours to educate a new generation of leaders for the new South Africa- men and women who will be capable of shaping the destiny of this great nation with vision, justice and love for the under privileged- with a sense of calling with concern for all the human family.
We pursue this challenge because it is a worthy goal for any educational institution, but particularly for Khanyisa, a school uniquely suited to be a beacon of hope and light for many. Every time we are improving the facilities and providing better opportunities for the youngsters ,they are better prepared to meet the challenges of the modern world.
