Khanyisa High School

A School with a difference

Mr. S.M.Vattakunnel founded Khanyisa High School in 1994 for the Roman Catholic Church. Currently, we have over 1300 students, 57 teaching and 30 non teaching staff. The aim of the school is to provide quality education, to children in and around Mthatha. The school assists in the holistic development of the learners in an environment in which all stake holders are challenged to live out the Christian values in a rapidly transforming society. The school is managed by a Board of Trustees drawn from the Diocese of Mthatha Roman Catholic Church and the School Governing Body. The school governing body comprises of representatives of parents and Board Members. The school governing body is answerable to the Board of Trustees and the latter is answerable to the Diocese of Mthatha concerning all administrative and financial matters of the school.

Within these electronic pages, I trust that you will get some ideas and information about Khanyisa High School The history of starting Khanyisa High School is a response to the call of the local community of KwaPayne. The Catholics of KwaPayne requested Father Fischer CMM to start a Catholic school in their area, to give quality education to economically disadvantaged rural children.

Our Achievements

2004

Dumezweni Bayanda

Achieved ALL six level 7’s and was one of the Top Learners in the Province, received the Premier’s scholarship. Enrolled for BSc Actuarial Science at UCT and completed it. He is now working for Deloitte in Johannesburg as a Senior Actuarial Analyst.

2008

Tuswa Uviwe

Achieved five level 7’s of which two of them were level 8’s which means 95% and above. Was the Top Achiever Provincially, received the Eastern Cape province Premier’s scholarship to study the University of his choice. He then enrolled for MBChB at UCT and completed in 2014

2010

Kamande Ian

Achieved five level 7’s .He enrolled for B.Com Accounting at UCT.
